To use a TrolMaster controller to control a dehumidifier, you'll need to follow these general steps. TrolMaster makes several models, like the Hydro-X (HCS-1) or Aqua-X, so this guide assumes you're using the Hydro-X, which is the most common for environmental control in grow rooms.
What You Need to Prepare:
1. TrolMaster Hydro-X controller (HCS-1)
2. Device Station (like DSP-1 or DSP-2)
3. Humidity Sensor (like MBS-H)
4. A compatible dehumidifier (like the Preair WH135 fresh air dehumidifier)
Step-by-Step Setup of the Trolmaster:
1. Install the Humidity Sensor
Plug the MBS-H humidity sensor into the TrolMaster controller.
Mount the sensor at plant canopy height, away from direct airflow, for accurate readings.
2. Connect the Dehumidifier to a Device Station
Plug your dehumidifier into a Device Station like the DSP-1 (120V) or DSP-2 (240V).
Plug the DSP into a power outlet and connect it to the Hydro-X controller using the 3.5mm cable.
3. Configure the Controller Settings
On the TrolMaster controller interface:
Go to "Humidity Control".
Set your desired humidity range (e.g., 50% RH).
Set the Dehumidify Mode (it should say "dehumidify" — not "humidify").
Set the day/night RH levels if needed.
4. Test the System
Raise the humidity above your set point to ensure the dehumidifier turns ON automatically.
Lower the humidity to verify it turns OFF.
Important Notes:
Ensure the dehumidifier supports external control (i.e., it resumes operation when power is reapplied). Some models won't turn back on unless you manually press a button.
If your dehumidifier resets every time power is cycled, consider one with auto-restart or an external control input.
Optional Advanced Setup:
If you're using multiple environmental devices (fans, AC, heaters), you can fine-tune the control priority and timing delays in the Hydro-X settings.
