Air Compressor: An Important Component of Dehumidifier

The humidity of the air changes with the change in the air state. When the air is compressed, its temperature rises and the relative humidity decreases. When the compressed air expands and the temperature of the air decreases its relative humidity increases, and there will usually be water precipitation. So, what effect does air humidity have on the air compressor?

The concept of air humidity

First of all, we should understand the concept of "humidity". Humidity is a physical quantity that represents the degree of dryness and wetness of the air. In general, it reflects the amount or percentage of water in the air. Humidity is divided into absolute humidity and relative humidity. What is absolute humidity? In simple terms, under the standard state, 1m ³ Mass of water vapor contained in the air in volume, unit: g/m ³。 Relative humidity is the ratio of the actual amount of water vapor contained in the wet air to the maximum possible amount of water vapor at the same temperature. That is to say, the relative humidity reflects the water absorption capacity of the air at this temperature. The lower the relative humidity is, the greater the water absorption capacity is, and finally reaches the saturation state, that is, the air no longer absorbs water at this time.

Wide application of the air compressor

Air compressors are mainly used in steel, electricity, metallurgy, shipbuilding, textile, electronics, chemical industry, oil and gas, mining, light industry, machinery manufacturing, paper printing, transportation facilities, food and medicine, casting and painting, marine terminals, military science and technology, automobile industry, aerospace and infrastructure, and other fields to provide power for different tools, transportation equipment, lifting equipment and lifting equipment.  Preair adopts high-quality air compressors from the world-famous brand which ensures the performance of the dehumidifiers.

Harm of high humidity to the air compressor

When the air compressor absorbs wet air from the outside to compress, the water vapor density will increase and the temperature will rise; When the compressed air starts to cool, the relative humidity increases; When the temperature continues to drop to 100% of the relative humidity, the air becomes saturated and can no longer hold more water; If the temperature continues to drop, there will be water droplets from the air at this time, which may lead to corrosion of internal parts of the air compressor, such as oil separation core and oil barrel cover. In addition, too much moisture in the air will increase the resistance of airflow in the air compressor pipeline. Since we need to use air, more water will naturally reduce the air, which will also affect the volumetric efficiency of gas and reduce the lubricating effect of the oil.

High Humidity

The direct influence of air humidity on the air compressor

1. The moisture in the air narrows the compressed air path and increases the resistance of airflow;

2. Affect the volumetric efficiency of the gas;

3. It is not conducive to the compression of the machine so the compression equipment and pneumatic machinery are subject to hydraulic impact. If the cooler and cylinder store a large amount of water, it will also cause machine damage accidents;

4. The moisture in the air is very corrosive, which makes the compression equipment and pneumatic machinery easy to rust and shorten the service life;

5. The water in the gas is mixed with the lubricating oil during the compression process, which will reduce the lubricating efficiency and increase the abrasion of the parts. In the packing of the rubber circulating lubrication, it will not only cause poor sealing but also deteriorate the lubricating oil of the air compressor;

6. One cubic meter of wet air (i.e. molecular density of air) is less than the weight of dry air of the same volume. At the same time, when the compressed air passes through the air compressor accessories, cooler air storage tank, and pipeline, most of the water vapor is condensed, so the production capacity for weight calculation will be reduced;

7. There is water in the air supply system. When the temperature is lower than 0 ℃, the water will freeze on the inner wall of the air duct, causing the pipe diameter to shrink, and even more, causing some pipes to completely freeze, impeding the operation of the machine. Therefore, the quality of compressed air depends not only on the pressure but also on the humidity.

Therefore, if the user uses the air compressor in places with high temperatures and humidity, some dehumidification work can be carried out, such as installing dehumidifiers, maintaining ventilation, and reducing the temperature, to reduce the moisture in the air.
